As you can see from my attached video below I am super excited at the introduction of new single serve technology from ZIPZ (zipzwine.com) When I saw the packaging and concept I was SOLD!!! Combine that with the fact that the packaging has been married with one of Zachys hottest selling line of California wines (FETZER Crimson & Quartz) and it is a SLAM DUNK.
Zachys consults for a few large hospitality providers on their wine programs…Most notably CENTERPLATE (centerplate.com) who has sports facilities, convention centers and entertainment venues nationwide. In addition, we work closely with the NY METS at CitiField and we have learned that there was a huge need to find a way to get premium wine into a single serve…easy to travel package.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
Zachys is one of the very first retailers in America with this new line of wines which just launched on April 1st. To get the message out we felt that it best to offer *FREE GROUND SHIPPING on all orders placed with us for Fetzer Crimson Red ZIPZ 2010 & Fetzer Quartz White ZIPZ 2011 between now and April 15th.
Simply, mention this promo if calling or emailing the store and if placing orders online write “ZIPZ PROMO” in the special instructions box and we will remove your shipping charge.
Watch the video because these wines are fun and easy and are a great solution to WINE-On-The-Go!!
All my best,
Andrew

In the world of Australian wine, Penfolds needs no introduction. Their wines have helped put Australia on the wine world map, and in the best possible way: by crafting fantastic wine across all price points. Their values have graced shelves all over the country for decades, and their high end wines have a demand that is perpetually larger than its supply. Just mention the word “Penfolds Bin” to an Australian wine lover and watch their ears perk up!
After a large amount of luck, sweet-talking, and no small amount of begging, we’ve managed to secure an allocation of the Penfolds “Bins” which comprise some of the most highly sought-after wines in the world. It’s been more than 3 years since we’ve been able to offer some of these wines out! And the best part? These are some of the best bins to date: the wines in this offer have received their best press ever from the recent issue of the Wine Advocate. And for an added bonus we are applying some VERY aggressive pricing for these iconic wines…from 15% to 30% off suggested retail pricing! It’s safe to say they are primed to disappear just as soon as we receive them in April.
These are both cellar-worthy and drinking very well right out of the gate. Lock in now for some of the best wines crafted by the premier winery of the entire Southern Hemisphere: Penfolds!
All My Best,
Andrew

Yeah…yeah…yeah Andrew, how hard could that be? This is the typical reaction I get. Granted, a few days soaking up the Tuscan sun, culture and delicious food was nothing to complain about. Stefan Wolansky, Brian Mullaney and I really worked as we tasted well over 325 wines during our 3 day trade tasting.
Wines tasted and categories covered were:
- 2008 Brunello Di Montalcino
– 2007 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva
– Central Tuscany (Specifically the heart of Chianti Classico and its sub regions)
– Western Tuscany (Bolgheri & Maremma)
– New releases from Piedmont (Barolo, Barbaresco & Barbera)
– Amarones
– Southern/Central Italy
With 7 major regions covered like that there is going to be a lot of exciting offers and wines coming down the pike. Team Zachys has always been a firm believer in tasting trips like this as it is always best to go and find the wines that WE like the best rather than waiting for the wine world to come to us. To prove that point:
On the final day of the tasting and one of the last wines of the day (All wines were tasted blind)
• Wine #75 “Super dark and extracted color in the glass with incredible viscosity as the wine just clings to the sides of the glass. Very modern color and extraction…clearly a more progressive winemaker lending his hand to this wine. In the mouth it envelops completely in an ultra-ripe fashion. Not sure where it is from but this one is sure to be a CROWD PLEASER.”
Low and behold I get off the plane this past weekend to learn the new Wine Advocate #205 came out on Friday and the top scoring wine from the Southern & Central Italy reviews was THIS WINE. Zachys already had the inside track…and now you do as well.
We had a blast on our quick jaunt and now have plenty of ammunition to figure out some exciting new acquisitions to the store in the up and coming months.
Stay tuned as there are some great wines coming.
All my best,
Andrew
Every Winter we travel to Tuscany in one of the LEAST glamorous times of the year with one goal in mind…to taste a HUGE amount of the new releases. Last year the store’s director of operations (And my amateur cameraman) Brian Mullaney joined me as we tasted through the ENTIRE new release vintage of Brunello over a day and a half. A tasting like this was SO valuable to us that we have asked our host to expand it to ALL of Tuscany (Expanding to Bolgheri and Chianti Classico) and we will take 3 solid days to taste through HUNDREDS of new vintage releases.
So, as we are set to get on the plane on Sunday night to go “Tuscany or Bust” I felt a weekend-only sale was appropriate to free up some space for the new selections we are going to grab. The weather this weekend here in New York is going to be LOUSY, so take the time to study my list because there are some INCREDIBLE deals in here:
This sale is this weekend ONLY (Sale expires 11:59PM 2/24) so when my plane lands in Italy on Monday morning I know how much damage we can do on grabbing new wines that we are excited about.
Stay tuned as my film crew (Brian & Stefan) and I will be filming clips from the road to get you guys updates on what we are tasting and are excited about.
Don’t miss out…and get excited about all the new wines to come.
All my best,
Andrew
P.S. Just a reminder…if you live in the area and can find your way down to the store, the $1 sale is going on today ONLY!
Building and maintaining the ZACHYS brand is no small task in today’s competitive environment. I made a conscious decision 7 years ago that it was important to lend our brand name to projects that are an emulation of what we do and what we stand for without any immediate returns.
One of our most successful ventures outside of Zachys has been the wine consultation we have done for NETJETS national fleet of private planes. For the last 7 years Zachys has played an integral part in the selections that are placed on board all their planes. Switching selections 3 times per year keep us on our toes to keep the program fresh and exciting.
Two years ago we came together with CENTERPLATE. Having worked on a previous wine branding project at CitiField with the NY METS, Centerplate’s now national Food & Beverage director asked Zachys to lend its expertise in elevating their national wine program. Centerplate is a very large food, beverage and service provider for many large venues like baseball stadiums, racetracks, football stadiums, convention centers and cultural centers. In total they operate 250+ venues nationwide. The objective has always been that clients should not have to “Check their tastes at the door”. There are many high-quality food and wine alternatives out there that can be presented in a desirable fashion.
WE have worked closely this year for the launch of the “Think Wine” campaign. It is a first-ever alliance of its kind in this arena where 4 major national wine providors (Through the guidance of Zachys) have come together to create a wine program that hits on a great blend of price/quality and a good spread of varieties. It is our objective that these types of venues would satisfy client’s food and wine expectations in the same way good restaurants can.
Stay tuned for much more to come on this project (Set for its launch on Aril 1st).
Just another way we are taking Zachys out of Zachys.
Andrew
One of the distinct advantages of having a locally run family business as many of us live close to the store. Combine that with an INCREDIBLY DEDICATED staff and Zachys has always managed to stay open during some of the worst weather Mother Nature can throw at us. So we are not going to let NEMO get us down.
I am here to tell you that it will be “Business As Usual” here at Zachys this weekend (Within reason). Give us a call, shoot us an e-mail or come on down to the store…we’ll be here. Should we be forced to close early or open late tomorrow tune in to zachys.com for details.
Besides that we have a lot of exciting things to look forward to this weekend…
Stay plugged in and keep checking your in-box this weekend because I am sure to throw a crazy sale or two out there to keep people occupied and prevent any cabin fever.
Stay safe…stay warm…and STAY TUNED for a business as usual weekend here at Zachys.
All my best,
Andrew
..and Boy Do We Have a Lineup for You!
Super tastings of Down under Aussies.
Super bowl cocktails: Purity vodka will be here pouring the Purity blitz and Purity martini for all you Vodka purists
Why stop there? Zachys has super savings and will deliver any last minute deliveries ALL weekend long!
“Take the drive” on down to Scarsdale this weekend.
January is always a different kind of busy for the Zachys buying team. For the first three months of the year (although a quiet time for many), we are insanely busy organizing, tasting, and purchasing all the new-release vintages for the months to follow. I would say that at least 65% of the year’s buying decisions are made in the first quarter.
The driving force for this “No Frills” Gazette:
1. We are so crazed tasting and buying; there are just not enough hours in the day to sit down and focus on a content-heavy catalogue. To do it right, we want to write new articles and stories, which takes time we just don’t have.
2. Quite simply…WE CAN’T HAVE IT ALL!!! It would be nice if we were collectors, but we are sellers of fine wine. Thus carrying more than one (and in some cases multiple) vintage at a time can create significant operational difficulties, and is not efficient for maintaining a streamlined inventory. So, as much as it pains my buyers (myself included), I have asked them to identify the last-of-bottles and wines where there is no more to get and CLEAR THEM OUT!!!
So, this Gazette is all about the WINE and the PRICE as we anticipate HUGE movement on the wine that follow in the next 38 pages.
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Take the time to read the following pages VERY CLOSELY as there are some INSANE DEALS in here. We are looking to rip the Band-Aid off quickly as letting go of wines at such low prices is going to be truly painful. (Many the lowest prices in America!)
These offers are a one-shot deal…when they are sold out…THEY ARE SOLD OUT.
We look forward to hearing back from you in the next couple of weeks. My advice is simple, DON’T HESITATE!
All my best,
Andrew
With the big day approaching this weekend (Super bowl Sunday) we thought today was the perfect day to swap out the complimentary wines in the ENOMATIC TASTING CENTER. As I see it there are 3 types of Superbowl fans…
- Fans that are rooting for the AFC team
- Fans that are rooting for the NFC team
- Fans who are just watching for the commercials and watching the halftime show
Whatever your reason for watching we felt it would be a cool weekend to do a taste-off in the ENO with affordable wines from two of our favorite regions, with each having a big “anchor” wine. (Our own Super winner if you will)
For this weekend’s tasting here is how we have lined up the teams and the wines:
The San Francisco 49ers: Represented with 8 delicious California selections featuring the 2009 Dominus
The Baltimore Ravens (Who crushed my Patriots L ): Represented with 8 of the hottest Italian wines in the store and 2009 Sassicaia as the “Wow” wine for obvious reasons, I am pulling for the Italian wines and by default the Ravens (My loyalty is to my region before my sports). Regardless of whether you are looking for value wines or the delicious anchors….we have a great lineup in the ENO that is definitely worth Taking The Drive.
All my best,
Andrew

It’s the beginning of the winter season in New York, don’t we all wish we could be on the beach with our laptops sipping on a Brugal Mojito in Dominican Repubilc or a Leblon Caipirinha in Brazil. You may ask, “What is the difference between both?” Both cocktails are made by using a differently produced rum…
Brugal is produced in Dominican Republic by using 100% Dominican sugarcane crops that are cut by hand and then milled to produce molasses. This rum is double distilled and aged in American oak for a minimum of 2 years up to 5 years.
Leblon, produced in Brazil from 100% sugar cane juice that is fermented for 15 hours before being transferred into the Alambique copper pot stills for single-batch distillation. The distillate is then rested up to 6 months in Vintage XO Cognac Casks from France. The various batches are then master blended, and the final batch is triple-filtered and bottled.
Now that we have gone through Rum 101, “Take a Drive” down and meet the lovely Brugal & Leblon ladies, taste, compare & enjoy!
Salud,
Violeta
